Levi x Reader: Working Overtime

You were busy working in the kitchen cooking dinner for both you and Levi, he had been working hard in the office slaving away every waking hour. It felt horrible that you barely saw him all that much but you knew why he did it, it was for the future that the pair of you want to build unfortunately for you being fresh out of University with a well worked for degree didn't mean that people were lapping at your feet to employ you, sending out a mountain high of applications and receiving nothing in return was a little disheartening but with your determination, you refused for it get you down. 

Most of your day had been spent at the computer searching for a job most of your refusals was due to a 'lack of experience' of course it was, to gain experience you have to have a job to, but you did manage to bag an interview at none other than the place that you had been dreaming to work at. Ever since you found the email not long ago it replaced the disheartening feeling with a feeling of excitement all that you had to do now was bag the job. 

The front door opened and closed with a bang enough for the room to shake and enough to startle you, being as timid as you were even the slightest of noise was enough. ''Welcome home, Levi. Dinner will be ready soon'' he replied with a grunt. Levi wasn't very good with words, so little things such as grunting were signals after being with him for the length of time that you had, you had translated what each one of them meant. Levi had, had a horrible day. ''Bad day?''

''Yeah''

You didn't press on further, not wanting to annoy him so you turned your attention back onto the meal that you were preparing. Levi lounged on the couch for a moment letting the stresses of the day leave his fatigued body, today had been the worst day of his working life it was all going somewhat fine until his co-worker Hanji decided to rain on the parade, the new brat had fucked up the printer and the coffee machine - on his first fucking day. Then to put the cherry on top of the cake his boss had bitched out on him, adding more paperwork for him to do. With a heavy sigh he got up from the couch and headed to the bathroom to freshen up before dinner, that was when he noticed that the laundry basket was still full.

He pressed on checking the rooms to notice that none of the chores that you said you would do had been done which was enough to push him over the edge. You called Levi down for dinner placing the dish down on the table, Levi was quick to join you ''What have you been doing all day?''

''Oh'' Sounding a little surprised, it's a rare occasion that he asks about your day so with a smile you being to explain, ''I spent most of the day looking for a job, oh! Which reminds me - ''

''So, you spent all day sat by the computer?'' His icy tone taking you back slightly, ''W-well no I made dinner and was going to do the laundry after - Levi is something wrong?''

''Wrong? What's right?! I come home after a hard days work - you know because I do fucking work so I can pay the fucking bills. To find you dicking around in the kitchen, after being sat around doing fuck all, all day. No cleaning has been done, nothing. And you have the nerve to ask me if something is wrong? This is bullshit (first) and you know it, I should have to come home to a mess of a home, with a lazy girlfriend. ''Looking for a job'' He mocked, ''You've been using that excuse for weeks now, the degree you got was a bullshit on and you know it, nobody will want to employ you. Now you either get a grip or get the fuck out of my house!''

You stood looking at him mouth slightly agape trying to form words with you mouth, ''Le-''

''No, no save it. I'm going out'' 

The door slammed with the same amount of force as he entered, you were still stood stock still not knowing what to do or say - if you could say anything. Glancing at the set table you picked up both dishes, placing his in the microwave you looked at yours before throwing it away the appetite you had before vanishing. Auto pilot mode had set in, within the hours of Levi leaving, you had done the laundry, cleaned the bathroom, bedroom, living room and kitchen as well as the windows. Pausing for a moment to stare at the clock which read 11:34pm, Levi had been gone over six hours and you hadn't heard any word from him, you scribbled down a note and left it on the kitchen counter for him before making the ascent upstairs. 

The bed dipped as you placed your weight down on it after changing into your nightwear the silence was painful, glancing to the left were a photo frame stands on the bedside table, inside a phone; the day of your graduation, with you cap and gown cradling the degree you worked so hard for, Levi stood with one arm wrapped around you waist a small smile on his face, most would be upset as he looked almost bored but you saw the emotion that was behind those beautiful steel eyes. Emotions of love, pride, happiness. Thats how you read Levi, his eyes gave away how he felt.

Your mind casts itself back, not only could you hear the rage in his voice but you could see it in his eyes - it was frightening. Levi had never shouted at you like that, you both had, had arguments in the past but nothing like this, it hurt this stung he insulted you and insulted everything you worked so hard to achieve. Salty tears drip on the glass silent cries soon developed into heavy sobs that wracked through your small body, not knowing what else to do you helplessly curled up holding onto the framed photo.

Levi had just drove and drove ending up in the middle of no where, he was feeling bad he had hurt you it wasn't his intention but something inside of him snapped and you were the closest person and bared the brunt of it. He was angry with himself, he saw the fear in your eyes when he raised his voice and got into your face, it wasn't like him to lose his temper at you. Many people had said that he was undeserving of your love, you a gentle timid creature was misplaced with someone like him; cold, stoic and an overall asshole, but you stayed with him. He remembered the pained expression on your face when he insulted the degree you worked so hard for, as soon as it left his ugly mouth he instantly regretted it.

He wanted nothing more than to go home and sleep it had been six hours since he stormed out of the house, six hours since he left you alone. He released a heavy sigh as he set the car into gear heading for home. What hit him first as soon as he got home was the smell of bleach the smell alone causing a pit to form in his stomach, throwing his keys onto the side he walked into the kitchen hoping that you would be there, a frown formed on his face when he saw that you were no where to be seen. He caught sight of the note and picked it up;

Dinner is in the microwave - (First)

His stomach twisted even after arguing you still cared, Levi moved on to the bathroom noting that the laundry had been done as well. Guilt was eating at him and it felt like shit, he climbed the stairs and opened the bedroom door finding your sleeping figure curled up on the bed a photo frame held towards your chest, he moved closer; your eyes were puffy and red, tear tracks were prominent on your face. Gently he removed the frame from your hands turning it around to study it, it was your graduation photo, he remembered how excited you were that day and how proud he was to not just of you but proud that he was stood by your side. Levi sat with his back towards you, it was only when he felt you shift that he turned around - he knew you were awake.

You lied there silently he was back and he was safe, talking right now wasn't something you wanted. ''(First)'' Silence. ''(First) please, I know you're awake''

''I'm sor-''

''No, no, nononono'' Levi spoke gently as he knelt on the bed pulling you from your curled state and into his lap your head rested against his chest, ''You don't have to apologize for anything''

''But the cleaning''

''But nothing''

The pair of you sat in silence, you focused your hearing on his heart beat it was steady and peaceful. ''It hurt, you know'' you mumbled, Levi stiffed slightly heart rate increasing, ''I know'' his voice faltered slightly, ''I didn't mean what I said. I was - I was angry, not at you, just a shitty day at work, and I know that isn't an excuse but that's what it was''

''I know that it won't take away the pain, I am sorry deeply it was never my intention to come back and sprout the ugly words that I said. You're finding it just as hard as I am, finding a job in today's economy is hard. You're so strong (first), I saw the stress, anger and the near defeat that you went through to get your degree but you never let anything stop you, noting. The day that degree was place into your hands it was truly a beautiful moment seeing the smile on your face is something that I will never forget. Not matter how many set backs you get when looking, you never let them get you down - if you don't believe me then I understand but please believe me when I say this; I am sorry''

For the second time the flood gates opened, you helplessly sobbed clutching onto Levi as if your life depended on it in return he pulled you closer to him, holding you tighter as if you might disappear. Levi waited until you had calmed he gently worked his fingers through your hair, you relaxed taking in a deep breath as fatigue started to set in. ''I'm sorry for being a Jerk''

''More like an asshole''

''Point taken'' you giggled and Levi smiled, a pleasant silence filled the room only to be disrupted by your stomach growling it was then that you remembered that you had thrown away the dinner you had made. ''I think that we should order a take away, sit in the living room with blankets and shit, watch some movie and be all cute and shit. In the morning I'll call in sick - how does that sound?''  

''Sounds perfect''
